‘B2B’
An Experimental Landscape of Visual and Sonic Play
B2B—short for "back-to-back"—is an experimental performance project that merges the worlds of DJing and VJing into a unified, immersive experience. Traditionally, B2B DJ sets involve two artists taking turns to select and mix tracks, fostering a dynamic musical dialogue. This project expands on that concept by integrating synchronized visuals, creating a cohesive audio-visual narrative.
Utilizing Max/MSP and the VSYNTH library, the visuals are crafted to produce video-synth-like textures. These visuals are projection-mapped onto vinyl records that have been transformed into white canvases, adding a tactile dimension to the performance. Each element—opacity, color, transitions, and luminance—is controlled in real-time through a MIDI-mapped DJ controller, allowing for seamless interaction between sound and sight.
Technical Setup:
10 vinyl records spray-painted white
2 speakers
1 projector
1 DJ controller (MIDI compatibile)
1 audio interface
1 podium
1 monitor
10 ft extension cord
2 power strips
4 power cords
B2B reimagines live performance as a stage for dual expression where visuals and music continuously influence and amplify one another in real time.
